* Goddess Speaks--a corner dedicated to women’s issues and experience.
*Astrology Corner--information and notes about what’s going on in the stars.
*Mystik Moon Message Board--requests for information and ideas; notification of events, new products and services of potential interest to readers.

Our aim is to provide a forum for wide ranging, lively conversations and information exchanges, and we invite you to speak here. If you have written an article that fits with the concerns and intentions of The Almanac, please submit it for consideration by e-mailing a copy to the editor’s address: Megan@mystikmoonpromotions.com . Similarly, if you would like to participate in the Artist’s Corner, we invite you to submit your artwork to Megan. Finally, if you have ideas for regular features or particular articles that you would like to see, submit them to the editor as well.
We also invite your reactions to the articles and regular features, as well as expressions of opinion about issues related to whole health, spirit, and vitality. In the coming months, we’d like to add a regular corner for such reactions and opinions.
All of us who meet on these pages are seeking to become the most and best that we can be. There are many paths to that becoming, and the voices of travelers along those many ways are welcome here. Sistersea, one of the travelers we have already met, sent a favorite quote which expresses the point perfectly.
We gaze up at the same stars,
The sky covers us all.
The same universe encompasses us.
What does it matter what practical system we adopt
in our search for the truth?
Not by one avenue only can we arrive at so tremendous a secret.
Symmachus 384 CE
Exactly.
Blessed be
Megan

FROM THE PUBLISHERS
A Message from Molly As we begin the journey of putting together our first E-Zine, I realize that I am going to have to learn how to put what I feel into the written word. This has never been easy for me. As a Libra (and a Woman) I have so much to say, and can talk for hours and hours, (sometimes about nothing) but writing it down can be rather difficult. I am learning to Journal and I hope getting better at it, so bear with me.
It is my hope that we can learn from one another as we go along our individual journey and set examples for each other and our children. I keep thinking about the children of the world right now and how much they already know and do to give back. It amazes me how so many parents cannot see the gifts their children have. I feel very strongly that it is everyone’s job to see to it that parents have the tools to help them nurture and support their Indigo Children, rather than drug and stifle them.
This is such an amazing time in all of our lives. There is so much to learn, and even more to give. I am excited to participate in this e-zine and learn from all of you. Hopefully we can encourage and empower others to grow and learn and share their knowledge and gifts with others as well. We have to work together, and together we can move mountains.
Breathe in the Light,
Molly

GODDESS SPEAKS
Memories from Pampering the Goddess Retreat
By Molly Straub
When Janet and I set out to put this Retreat into motion, not once did it occur to me that I would be doing something that would affect me so deeply! I knew that I would have fun and would learn from everyone there, but it was just a Retreat-- a gathering of women of like minds who just needed some time away from their everyday lives for one reason or another. Maybe a mom needed a break, or maybe a work a-holic needed to get away from the office for a few days, but it was not for ME. I was simply organizing the event. I was just watching and learning. HA!
As the weekend grew nearer, I began to realize that I needed this weekend just as much as any other woman! I am a Goddess too! The week leading up to the Retreat was rough and I was not feeling my best. My back hurt. My head ached. I wasn’t sure how I was going to get through the weekend and not leave it all up to Janet and our facilitators. Once the guests began to arrive, though, my whole energy changed and I knew this was going to be memorable!
We began with a Drumming Circle and sitting there in a room full of women, most of whom were beating on a drum in one way or another, everything changed for me. My anxiety, my back pain, my headache, all of that just disappeared and all that was left was the sound of the drums. It was a healing night, for just about everyone in that room. Some of us had never drummed before, some had been drumming for a long time, and we all got something from the experience. We even had 3 singing bowls, and if you have not heard them or used them, you don’t know what you are missing!
The next morning was Yoga, Meditation, and Intuition. We kept to a pretty loose schedule and managed to get everything in, including a gourmet breakfast, lunch and Dinner! Oh the food! That is a memory all by itself! By nightfall, we were all so exhausted the only thing we could do was sleep!
In the morning of the last day, we had Yoga and Meditation to look forward to. We all over slept and got off to a rather slow start and while we talked and ate breakfast, it was discovered that the Dome-- where we were to do Yoga that morning, where we had spent so much of our day on Saturday, where we had experienced so much together-- was on fire! We all rushed around getting water, fire extinguishers and calling 911! It was quite an exciting morning and not at all what we had planned! In retrospect, it was fitting. We put so much emotion into that little space, it needed to be cleansed and fire was probably the only way to do it effectively. No one was in the dome at the time and no one was injured, the fire was put out before the fire department even got there, but the dome is no more.
We ended the weekend with a circle around a very large and rather awesome crystal. We passed around a talking stick and took turns reflecting on the weekend. When the weekend began there were 12 of us, by the end there were 9 of us (we lost a few for various reasons). Over all, it was a very important and relaxing weekend, with some unplanned excitement on the side. We are anxious to plan another weekend retreat, maybe one with out anything catching on fire! For now, I will hold onto these memories, kick myself for not bringing a camera, and process all the information that came up this weekend. A deep heartfelt THANK YOU to all that attended and participated and especially to those who fed us and made sure that we had everything that we needed.
Blessings,
Molly

LIFE SKILLS:
TOOLS AND STRATEGIES FOR KEEPING YOUR BALANCE
By Megan Jones
Genna is a teacher, a parent and a partner. She has a rich, full, and often exacting life. Today she has lessons to plan and papers to mark, reports to write and committee meetings to prepare for. Plus the lawn needs mowing and there are several loads of laundry to be done. Her eldest is giving her lip about mowing the lawn, complaining about his history teacher and demanding dinner. Her partner, who promised to pick up dinner on the way from work, hasn’t come home and hasn’t called. Her youngest daughter’s dancing teacher is on one line, waiting for an answer to her request for help in staging and costuming the next dance revue. On the second line, her department head has just told her he’d like her to volunteer to write a proposal for a curriculum study grant. Something is going to have to give--and soon.
You can probably relate. The details may differ, but most of us have to do some very fancy dancing sometimes to keep our balance and hold on to the reins of our lives. Strong, well- honed life skills make that task far easier.
Life skills?? Life skills is an umbrella term for a range of tools, strategies and communication skills that enable people to meet the challenges and demands of life today. High level skills in responsible assertion, stress management, and time management, for example, would help Genna immensely in dealing with her family and with the conflicting demands on her time. Conflict management, coping with change and teamwork are examples of other life skills that enable people to be more fully in charge of their lives, and to live and work more successfully with family, friends and colleagues.
Everyone has acquired some level of these skills, but intensive skill workshops have been shown to significantly increase those levels. Increased skill levels, in turn, lead to heightened personal strengths. For example, people with well-developed life skills generally have high levels of self- esteem and confidence, as well as excellent communication skills. Additionally, they tend to be adaptable, deal readily with change, and demonstrate great creativity in dealing with problems, tasks and life in general. They also generally get along, and work well, with others, but are equally comfortable with being alone and working alone. They are less vulnerable to stress and skillful at dealing with the stress they do feel. They are also less prone to accident and injury, and make fewer mistakes.
In business, life skill development has been shown to be good for the bottom line in terms of both decreased costs and increased productivity. It also correlates with increased staff morale, improved teamwork, and better customer service. Similarly, the teachers, nurses, social workers and other human service personnel who are most effective in their work, and most able to withstand the built in stress of their work, are those with well developed core life skills and the personal strengths that come with them. Most studies to determine the effects of life skill development have been done in the context of job and work performance. Respondents regularly comment, however, that improved life skills also enhance their personal lives and relationships.
Life skill development programs range from 90 minute seminars to weekend workshops. The most effective of them provide much more than just information and tools. They also provide participants with safe space and time to look closely at their beliefs around a particular challenge or demand, such as standing up for oneself or lack of time. This is critical because life skills are supported and powered by personal belief systems. If, for example, you believe that everyone’s time is more important than yours, all the time management tools in the world won’t help you find time for yourself. An effective program will incorporate sufficient time for looking at, reflecting on, and talking about personal beliefs and values with the guidance of a skilled and experienced teacher or counselor.
Life Skills Workshops are prepared and led by Megan Jones, a well educated, widely experienced and highly skilled teacher. She has been involved in Life Skills education and counseling for over 15 years. Megan has a BA with Honors in English and taught Business Communications for 15 years. She has spent the last 25 years teaching in Australia and has returned to share her vast knowledge with us.
If you would like to learn more, Megan presents workshops for groups of 12 or more. For more information on how to sponsor a Lifeskills workshop, contact us through the website at
For many of us who follow the path of Pagan spirituality, reaching out, touching and communing with the Divine within and without, is an integral part of our spiritual practices. Ritual, meditation, perhaps daily devotionals and the burning of incense at our personal altars, are some examples of how we honor and draw the energy of nature and the Divine into our lives.
The act of creating artwork, some in the form of my ritual tools, has become a very powerful way for me to honor the presence of the Goddess/God in my life. One of the first tools I was inspired to create was my Journey Staff, an idea that I am pleased to be able to share here with you. Just as a worthwhile journey seldom takes place in a day, the creation of a meaningful, personal tool should also take time to complete. Seek inspiration everyday. Work on your staff only a few times a week, perhaps less. Make that time meaningful, using it as a way to connect with your deeper self and the Divine. This doesn’t require artistic talent. This is an act that should please you and have meaning in your eyes, to your spirit.
You will need to find a stout branch that feels comfortable to hold and walk with. Please don’t cut your staff from a living tree. Mother Nature provides us with plenty of useful windfall branches. Take a walk in the woods, or try finding your staff in the driftwood on the beach. You might even find branches cut with the teeth of the beaver there, if you are lucky. Use the time searching for your staff to ask yourself, “What is it that I am seeking at this time, as I journey on the path of this life?” My journey staff is about spiritual regeneration. You may be seeking courage, wisdom, or clarity of vision or purpose for example. Only you can determine your needs.
When you have found a staff or the staff has found you as may happen, you are ready to begin. I have written a guided meditation, which I used to help inspire the focus and design of my staff. You might consider creating a ritual or visual meditation to allow yourself to open your spirit to inspiration and focus your intent. I have also found it helpful to light a candle and ask for guidance, before I begin my work.
To prepare your staff you may remove any attached bark and use sandpaper to smooth the wood. There are no hard and fast rules here. This is about what resonates for you. You may wish to leave the staff in its’ most natural state. As you are preparing your staff touch and feel the wood, look at it from all sides and visualize how you might design and place symbols which signify the focus of your journey. If you are planning to paint or to
use markers on your staff, applying a wood sealer will prevent your artwork from bleeding.
There are many ways to decorate your staff. The bottom of mine has been dipped in red, the color of birth, and death, symbolizing transformation. I have painted a snake winding its’ way up the shaft, an ancient symbol of the Goddess incorporating chevrons onto its’ back, a symbol of the vulva. Much of the symbolism I have used, I have drawn from books such as “ The Language Of The Goddess” by Marija Gimbutas and “When God Was A Woman” by Merlin Stone. These and many other wonderful books can be found or ordered at your local bookstore. Some symbols have been purely personal invention, like my handprint near the top of my staff.
This is truly your creative process. You might use stamps and stencils to create your symbols. You can trace symbols onto your staff using carbon paper and then paint or use markers on them. One of my circle sisters carved out some of the knots in her staff and inserted crystals. Others have covered their staffs in runes. Some have used macramé cuffs and attached feathers, bells, beads and talismans. The possibilities are limitless. Pagan spirituality is rich with symbolism, from runes to rocks, right down to the kind of tree your staff is fashioned from. Find those that have meaning for you.
When you have completed the design of your staff you may choose to use an oil finish. Rubbing bee wax onto the wood is another way to give your staff a good finish and protect your work.
It is my deepest hope that the creation of your journey staff will become an internal journey, one that you savor and will be better for having traveled. Your staff will serve as a powerful affirmation of the journey you will continue to travel, the path you have chosen to follow. Walk always with dignity, honor and peace, allowing the gentle hand of the Goddess/God to guide you.
Brightest Blessings,
Sistersea

- Journey Meditation -
by Sistersea
Imagine that you are floating in a soft, dark place. It is perfectly warm, perfectly peaceful, perfectly comforting. Take a moment and let the serenity of this place infuse your body…(pause)
Faintly at first, a tiny bead of light appears, seemingly far, far in the distance… It grows, coming closer and closer until it encompasses you, bathing you in its’ pure pale light. You realize that you are in the presence of the Goddess, Great Mother of all who came before and all who will come after. You are wrapped in and caressed by Her radiance as if by a mother with her child…(pause)
You feel the unconditional love the Goddess has for you. You know to the roots of your soul, that you are safe from harm, protected and nourished in the arms of the Goddess, Great Mother…(pause)
From the beginning of your journey in this world to its’ end, you carry a seed of the divine within you. A glowing bead of light, Her wisdom, Her strength and courage, Her unconditional love, contained in the center of your being. As She is ever present in the universe and the world without, She is ever present within you, in all that you do…(long pause).
A window to this place opens. You find yourself on a high flat vista, standing on a path worn into the warm, rich, brown earth. It is a clear, bright, beautiful morning. It seems that you can see forever in all directions. Stretching out your arms you tip back your head and turn slowly in place savoring the gentle breeze, the sun on your face and the sweet smell of dew soaked grasses…(pause)
Refreshed you turn to face the path from where you have journeyed. If you look closely you can see clearly to its’ very beginning. You see the dips and peaks in the path you have followed. That path may be straight and sure, sometimes twisted, turning back on itself. Times when you were sure of your destination, and followed your inner knowing …, times when you felt lost and without direction. Times when you walked your path with honor and dignity and times when perhaps you fell under negative influences from within and without…(pause)
Look back and acknowledge your journey, all the hardship and joy, all the pleasure and pain. Points in your travels when you acted with courage and wisdom, points where you made mistakes and showed your human weaknesses. The individuals who were a blessing and helped you along the way, the individuals who caused you pain. Each experience carries a lesson from the Goddess. Each experience has become part of who you are at this moment. Honor your journey, remembering the path that has taken you here, because here is a very good place to be…(pause)
Turn to face the vista ahead of you. The path before you has many branches, each going in different directions. Pause now to think of the present. Think of the many blessings that you have in your life at this moment. What are they? What are the riches the Goddess has gifted you with in the present? Count them, revel in your good fortune and lift your arms to the heavens thanking Her for all She has bestowed upon you…(pause)
Now you must choose a path to continue ahead on your journey. Ask yourself where you are going, what is it you are striving to achieve at this time on your journey. Reach into that part of the Goddess within, at the same time reaching out to the Goddess without and ask for Her guidance. Let Her speak to you for a time…(long pause).
Before you, held by unseen hands, stands the staff you have been preparing. It holds symbols of your journey here, your hopes and aspirations for the journey to come, a gift to you from the Goddess…(pause)
Your journey staff is a wondrous tool, a powerful affirmation of the path you have chosen, the journey you must travel. Reach forward and grasp your staff. You are ready to continue your journey. You are sure of your way. Walk with honor, courage and inner knowing. When you reach a place where you walk swayed and buffeted by influences without, hold firm to your staff allowing the power contained within to draw you back to your path, walking always with the gentle hand of the Goddess to guide you, mindful that your destination is never as important as your journey there…

My husband, Michael Robison and I are a part of a very special group that is learning to empower the world and make it a better place by first empowering and healing ourselves physically, emotionally, mentally and financially. This group, founded by Mary Manin Morrissey, is called Pioneers for the Possible, www.newthoughtbroadcasting.com .
In Mary’s book, Building Your Field of Dreams the basics to dream building were outlined:
1. Find a dream that enlivens you.
2. The dream should align with your core values.
3. The dream should be big enough that you will have to enlist help from a Higher Source.
4. It should require you to grow into more of your true self.
5. It will ultimately bless others. Now, we are also in the Protégé program designed after the book the One Minute Millionaire (www.oneminutemillionaire.com). The founders, Mark Victor Hansen (Chicken Soup for the Soul series) and Robert Allen (No Down Payment) support these basic dream steps. They encourage us to "make a big promise" and THEN figure out how you are going to get it done. "If you can see the path, it’s not YOUR journey," says Robert.
So that is what we have done. A group of us have chosen a task so big that we need lots of assistance. Our goal is to cut the National statistics of obesity, Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure/high cholesterol, heart disease and cancer by 50% by the end of this decade. Imagine a huge task such as that! We must be insane…or are we?
Do you ever have a gut feeling that you are on to something REALLY big? Well, I have that feeling with this plan. I have worked for many years consulting with people about health and wellness. I have read and used all kinds of different books and techniques on dieting. I have been able to help many people over the years, but have been frustrated because I always came to a plateau with them.
Until recently, the diet program that has produced the best results has been Dr. Peter D’Adamo’s Blood Type Diet (Eating for you Blood Type) coupled with my work as an intuitive. Enter Dr. Barry Sears with his book, A Week in the Zone. All of a sudden --Success! By combining the two programs and with a bit of intuitive support we now have a winning combination that works for everyone (so far). It all just makes so much sense!
Eat for your blood type, balance out those hormones, detoxify your body and do it with an easy system and an awesome support group. Wow. Well, it’s worked for me, and several other "guinea pigs." But, could it work on a bigger scale? Could we accomplish our goal and change those statistics? We think so. And we are EXCITED!!
I’m not making any universal claims; I’m only saying that it is working for us. I’ve lost 24 pounds and 17 inches since Sept. 2002. I no longer have brain fog. I have more energy, more confidence and have actually established the habit of exercise with our specially designed weighted walking shoes. My husband has lost 17 pounds and the twist in his back is actually straightening out--and he cheats really bad! There are others with astounding testimonials as well.
Jan is one of those. She had begun eating for her blood type, but then she went on a cruise and could not overcome the temptation to eat many things on the "avoid" list. The result? Gout. We got her on the combination Zone and Blood diet the day after she came home and her body responded in just 3 days! Unheard of.
We’re asking for help now. We need more people on this program to prove to the medical community that it is valid. We need open-minded people with some specific talents and gifts to share with the world.
Here’s what we need:
1. People with weight issues, diabetes, hypertension, and/or high cholesterol, who would be open to shifting that consciousness by being involved in a 3-month trial involving the Weight Management System.
2. People with promotional skills of any kind who would advertise for us.
3. People with computer skills, printing skills, organizational skills.
4. Healers who would be open to sharing the program with their clients.
5. Does anyone know of a good deal for a telephone "bridge" line? We want to have morning support calls to discuss the program and other alternatives for health and weight loss. We want the calls taped so that people can call in and listen to them for up to 24hrs until the next call takes it's place.
6. People who see how their talents and gifts can fit into a Nation-wide cause such as this. If this sounds at all intriguing, there are several ways to find more information:
Attend an educational workshop on Wednesday, May 21 at the La Conner Tea Garden from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. If you have any questions about the program or would like to attend, please call Denice Moffat, WC (360) 854-9778 or Donna Gremmert, WC (360) 428-2836. Help us shift the consciousness of health in the Nation!
If you’d like to be part of the pilot study, just call or email. We will email you a Weight Loss Questionnaire and set you up with a free Weight Loss Consultation. drmoffat@5pillars.com or djgremmert@hotmail.com.

The Gift Of Spiritual Empowerment
by Verla Wade, J. Hinson, Ibis
The Living Light Foundation & Alliance of Light Centers
Throughout history, from the times of ancient Egypt, to Paracelsus (the Father of modern medicine) through today, hidden methods of healing and health have existed that have never been revealed to the mass population. Powerful, direct, and effective, these methods work with the natural flow of energy and light in the human body (rather than against it as so many methods in our modern society do).
Activation of DNA to the 22nd strand is one of these methods, and has been handed down from before the time of King Solomon. Initially the twenty-two-strand activation was used as a rite of passage to empower the high priests and priestesses for serving the people's needs. The first recorded recipient of this process was Joseph (of the many-colored coat) when he was initiated into his leadership role in Egypt.
Twenty-five hundred years ago King Solomon gathered from around the world the head shamans, healers, medicine men, and alchemists. Ancient healing techniques and wisdom were collected for the first time in one place on the planet, resulting in the development of universal healing techniques. It is believed that this information was destroyed in the fire of the Library at Alexandria. In fact, this activation and numerous healing rituals are known today because the mystery school tradition has maintained and used them through the ages, handing them down from one person of power to another in the oral tradition.
The bio-magnetic structure of the human body is very delicate and needs special attention to be maintained and healed. The most basic tool for maintenance is the 22-Strand DNA Activation. This powerful tool cleans the DNA and reactivates those parts of it that are not illuminated with energy. This is a very specific process that translates a new light pattern to the master cell of the pineal gland, from which new cells are replicated. Taking only a few minutes, it has an immediate and lasting effect on your physical body. Later, some effect can be felt in the soul and mind as well.
Until recently this activation as been inaccessible to all except initiates of the Mystery Schools, certain spiritual masters, and holy persons dedicated to serving the Light. This scientific process has been used by people such as Rudolph Steiner, Nikola Tesla, and Carl Jung. Activation to the 22nd strand is now being offered to all of humanity from the spiritual realms.
The DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) holds the essential blueprint for all biological life, and consists of a sugar base, phosphates, and a sequencing of nucleotides. Containing the encoded information relative to both your physical and spiritual lineage, it is unique and very personal. This encoded information determines your physical form, hereditary maladies, mental proclivities, emotional behavioral patterns, spiritual gifts, and more. The DNA contains the master plan for your life purpose and divine potential. It is who you are, literally holding the script to your life!
The original divine blueprint for humans consists of 24-strand DNA. Most of the general population have only two strands of their DNA activated, and thus are using a mere 5-10% of their brain capacity and DNA.
The 22-Strand DNA Activation is not a healing per se, but an empowerment that can aid you in your own healing process. This process allows the clearing of genetic patterning for many diseases. Any change in your genetic structure will affect your ancestors and descendants three to five generations in the past, as well as into the future.
The 22-Strand Activation will give you access to the secrets and mysteries of who you are and what your purpose is, yielding answers to the questions: Why am I here? What are my gifts and talents? Where did I come from? Am I doing what I’m supposed to be doing in my life? Who am I? and more.
Some benefits of the 22-Strand DNA Activation:
· Enables you to bring in and hold more Light in the physical body The 22-Strand DNA Activation places more light into the physical body. Utilizing the procedure known as etheric surgery, the Activation is performed on the etheric structure surrounding your physical body. The physical and etheric bodies are so closely connected that the physical body “experiences” whatever happens at the etheric level. In this activation 12 receptor sites to your DNA are accessed through the etheric spine and illuminated with light. This activates 22 of the 24 key strands.
As the New Millennium dawns, we are moving out of the mere human experience into a new level of being. Our bodies have a consciousness of their own and our cooperation is required as they move through the many changes that lie ahead. As a result, this activation is now being offered from the realms of spirit to bring humanity into full empowerment. Many technologies now available will activate the DNA up to the 12th strand. Activating strands beyond that requires the service of one who is trained and initiated at the physical level, i.e., someone who has received the authorization from the spiritual realms to perform this activation.
Your body’s normal state of being will be profoundly changed by this Activation. This method is powerful, direct, and effective because it works with the natural flow of energy and light in the human body. With the 22-Strand Activation, you open the door, which, when closed, limits the life force energy flow into your body. As a result, you move into a state of Light approaching Divinity, thus preparing yourself for the energy requirements of this new millennium.
22-Strand DNA Activations are available by Betsy Myles, trained and certified by the Rocky Mountain Mystery School. She can be contacted at Quantum Living, 360-588-8050,

PURPOSE
by Helen D. Vandeman
There is a seeking, a yearning that most people experience that is variously described as the search for fulfillment, or Truth, or union with the Divine. Many of us have sought fulfillment in the offerings of the world--love, family, success, or “meaningful employment”, to name some of the big ones. Others have pursued Truth via the spiritual path. Very few, however, have found lasting peace or happiness. Those who have actually had a true awakening experience are unable to teach what caused them to be open at that moment. For many the experience was sudden and unbidden but, in any case, the awakening experience is personal and not teachable except as an example of possibility. (For such examples, read Mystics, Saints and Sages by Robert and Judyth Ullman.)
One way to direct our search for meaning is to know our purpose. Where we seek that purpose, however, depends on who we believe ourselves to be. If you believe you are a body with a soul, you’ll look for soul mates, soulful work and soul-filled roles. If you identify solely with the body, your purpose will be some form of “doing”, such as a job or other activity, or it will be the expression of your senses, as in a particular way of communicating. In either case, however, the goals are external to yourself and ephemeral, as well. They will not satisfy; they will not last. And when they’ve gone, you’re left again with no purpose.
Many people stop their search when they find the perfect job or meaningful employment. However, as pointed out in my book, We Are One: Using Intuition to Awaken to Truth, “A problem arises when we believe that our purpose here or ‘calling’ is whatever work we do. We might then believe that one particular form of work would be more worthy than another, even make us feel worthy. As though we weren’t worthy until we found this work...” (pp 39-40) If the work changes or disappears, or you become unable to do it, are you suddenly unworthy once again?
“To the ego, we must do to be worthy, and we demonstrate that worthiness by what we do. To Spirit...’You need to do nothing.’ There is nothing we need do to become worthy.” (WAO, p 49) Spirit knows that each of us has an identity, or a consciousness or Mind, or an eternal Self—which is of the One. “This Mind is not the one we usually identify with, which sees ourselves as separate from each other and from God. It is not part of the brain; and it exists without the need for a brain or a body. Consciousness or Mind has always been, and remains unified or One.” (WAO, p 8) When we identify ourselves as Spirit, or Consciousness, or Mind, our purpose becomes, simply, to express that unique self of the One.
Though consciousness or Mind is One, we still have an individual purpose--an individual part in the Whole. One way to determine that individual purpose is to look for what we need to know or heal for ourselves. Where do you feel a lack of wholeness or of peace? Are you holding on to anger and/or resentment towards yourself or someone else? Are you judging yourself or someone else? For what? Do you need to forgive?
We may also look at our experience. If your body is experiencing pain suffering or sickness, you have given your body that purpose. Maybe you wanted to punish yourself or, perhaps, someone else. If your experience of a particular relationship is conflict, conflict is the purpose you have assigned the relationship.
What we believe about ourselves is expressed in the purposes we give ourselves and in the world we see around us. It is clear that many of our perceptions need healing, and the simplest process for achieving this healing is to intend that the purpose/outcome of any experience--whether of your body, your relationships, or your actions--be peace and wholeness, love and joy. There is no need to be concerned about the form these intentions take. Your ego, or separated self, can’t know. Only the One undivided Mind knows.
The hitch in this process is always our attachment to old experience and belief, regardless of how unpleasant they may actually have been. The first obstacle to setting a new purpose is almost always body/ego resistance. We are afraid of losing familiar payoffs, like making someone else guilty. But if old beliefs and behaviors haven’t made you truly happy--and that is the one purpose we all share--perhaps it is time to try another way.
Our true purpose is to remember we are One. When you’re willing to intend peace and wholeness for everyone, particularly those with whom you feel conflict, then you experience it yourself; and you will come to know the Divine’s purpose for you beyond the activities of your ego/body.

Retrogrades/Stationary/Direct
The planets in our solar system are engaged in a constant cosmic dance. From an astrological viewpoint, there are three important “dance steps”, retrograde, stationary and direct.
A planet is described as retrograde when it appears to be moving backwards through the sky from the perspective of the earth. Planets are never actually retrograde or stationary, they just seem that way – it is an optical illusion.
Typically, retrograde planets usher in a period of seemingly inevitable or fated events over which we seem to have little or no control. The sign and house the retrograde occurs in points to the area of life where an individual will be most affected. A retrograde is best seen as a cycle, beginning when the planet begins to slow down to a stop before traveling backwards, and ending when the planet returns to the point where it first paused.
The planet’s energy is most powerful, and likely to produce the most drama, when it becomes stationary (when it appears to be motionless in the sky). These stationary periods occur at the beginning of the cycle (when the planet first halts as it prepares to move backwards) and midway through the cycle when the retrograde planet slows to a stop before moving forward again.
When the planet begins it’s forward movement once again, it is said to be direct. At this point, our lives return to a more normal state and things appear to calm down – the drama lessens. Whew!
Mercury Retrograde
Mercury retrogrades are probably the most well known of retrogrades. Because Mercury’s orbit is relatively small, it makes three retrograde periods in a year (lucky us, this year it turns retrograde four times!). So, issues surrounding things that mercury rules, communications, transportation, commerce etc., are affected. By extension, Mercury also rules people who work in these areas.
On April 26, 2003, Mercury turns retrograde at 20Taurus 32”, sending communications, missed appointments, mail and the internet into a general tailspin! This awkward period lasts for three weeks or so. Mercury finally turns direct again on June 5, bringing things back to normal.
Mercury retrograde can cause personal misunderstandings, flawed, disrupted or delayed communications in negotiations and trade, glitches and breakdowns with telephones, computers, cars, buses, trains and planes. Usually this happens because some small component has gone astray or awry.
When Mercury is retrograde, everyone’s thinking is more introspective and we tend to think about issues and concerns which relate to the sign involved. With Mercury retrograde in Taurus, people with this sign prominent in their charts will be especially prone to such introspection. There is little choice but to reconsider one’s personal views and opinions about life. There is, however, an opportunity to gain insight into one’s own ego.
It should be noted that Mercury retrograde, like any cosmic aspect, affects people differently, depending on where it hits their personal charts. Some people actually prosper under a retrograde Mercury, especially if Mercury is retrograde in their natal charts and otherwise well-aspected. It is also a time when matters begun under a previous retrograde period will come to fruition, or completion.
Mercury retrograde in Taurus brings blockages connected with jumping to conclusions and accepting new ideas. Thinking may be unduly structured and conservative, to the point of solidification. The stubborn nature of Taurus gives great powers of concentration, but this can turn under retro Mercury to an obstinate refusal to concentrate or be taught. The direct route tends to be blocked through inattention to detail, misunderstood directions, missed appointments and the like.
If you would like to find out how Mercury retrograde may affect you personally, I would be happy to do a reading for you. Retrograde readings are $10 and full natal chart readings are $30. Contact Janet Hickox at (360) 855-9667 for more information.

Longing For Peace
by Pat Hale
Each of us, in our way, longs for peace. Peace and quiet. Peace of mind. The Peace that passes understanding. But instead we wage war. I'll have a piece of that. You want a piece of this?!
Back in the mid '60s I made Christmas cards of the earth cut into three pieces that made a Peace Symbol. I used blue and brown construction paper. It was a lot of work, but very effective. Inside it read, "Peace... or pieces?" It seems we are now at the point of really, physically and ideologically making that choice, some forty years later.
Pray for peace. I get emails every day urging this- insisting on it. I pray for peace. Most of us pray for peace. We are effecting changes and lending energy to shift the consciousness of the planet.
Peace be with you. Peace be with me. Even in the midst of family arguments and shouting voices, peace be with me. Let me stay centered and focused on my heart's desire; peace for all. Families fight; it's part of life. But let us fight to re-establish a center of peace, always.
Perhaps our longing and desire for peace is fueled by a fear that true, lasting peace is not a reality. That as much as we say we want it, we don't really believe it's possible. If this is the case, then we are sabotaging our heart's desire even before we plant the seed.
Let us each search our heart and soul to find the weeds of doubt and fear and pull them out right now, as Spring rapidly unfolds. Weed out all fear and doubt diligently. Now plant true, healthy, new, germinating seeds of love and peace. Peace is a reality. Peace is possible and necessary for us to grow strong and healthy- as individuals, as families, as a plant of humanity.
Please keep praying for peace. But right now, and every moment of every day from now on, visualize what peace looks and feels like to you, in all your relationships, in your family, your neighborhood, your city, state and country. Feel what peace is to a whole planet. And know you are the Peacemaker this world so desperately needs.
Peace is powerful. It is active love imbued with compassion and understanding. As you plant your seeds of Peace in the garden of your soul, know it will inspire others to weed out their inner gardens and plant peace, too. Practicing Peace is a moment to moment endeavor. Each moment we choose peace nurtures all the seeds of peace everywhere. So choose peace NOW. And know as you do, peace blossoms and flowers and fills the air with sweet perfume.
We long for peace, but we each must choose peace. See the possibilities of peace in every situation, every person, every place. Soon Peace will bloom everywhere because each of us has become the reality of PEACE.

Like Snow
by Pat Hale
Snow is falling on the ground
softly, gently all around.
Blanketing everything I see.
I feel it silently covering me.
How beautiful it makes my world,
this blanket of white, just unfurled.
It changes all I look upon-
the trees, the path - without a sound.
Inside the snowglobe, safe and warm
is my favorite way to watch the storm
The world outside is turning white.
my heart is filling with delight.
How beautiful to watch it fall
softly, gently over all.
It lays it's beauty everywhere
without a thought, without a care.
Could I be more like falling snow?
Let go of life and let it flow?
Can I change the world when my love I share?
To be more like snow is my prayer.
